Primary Purpose:

As a Behavior Intervention Teacher, you will play a crucial role in providing support and guidance to students who exhibit challenging behaviors. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement effective strategies to address these behaviors, promote positive social interactions, and facilitate academic progress. Working closely with students, teachers, parents, and other support staff, you will create a nurturing and structured learning environment conducive to the success of all students.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate in special education

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area

Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting and implementation

Knowledge of behavior and social skill intervention techniques and methodology

Experience working with students with diverse behavioral needs and abilities.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and report writing.

Patience, empathy, and genuine commitment to supporting the success and well-being of all students.

 

Experience:

Experience working with students including implementing behavior management strategies.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Behavior Assessment and Analysis:
    • Conduct comprehensive assessments of students' behavior patterns, triggers, and underlying factors.
    • Utilize various assessment tools and techniques to gather relevant data and insights.
    • Analyze behavioral data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for intervention.
  2. Individualized Behavior Plans:
    • Develop individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) based on assessment findings and in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
    • Clearly outline measurable goals, objectives, and strategies tailored to each student's unique needs.
    • Ensure BIPs are implemented consistently and reviewed regularly for effectiveness.
  3. Behavioral Support and Coaching:
    • Provide direct support and coaching to students in implementing strategies outlined in their BIPs.
    • Teach students alternative, socially appropriate behaviors and coping mechanisms.
    • Offer guidance and encouragement to help students build self-regulation skills and resilience.
  4. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, and other support staff to ensure a coordinated approach to behavior management.
    • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on students' progress and solicit their input and involvement.
    • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities to enhance skills and share best practices.
  5. Data Collection and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of behavioral data, interventions implemented, and outcomes achieved.
    • Compile and analyze data to monitor progress towards goals and make data-driven adjustments to intervention strategies as needed.
    • Prepare reports and documentation as required by school policies and regulations.

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist non-ambulatory students, and lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment
